Terry Capps was the former owner of Allegro School of Music & Dance in Buda from 1991 to 2009, where he managed a staff of teachers in addition to his own private piano studio. At that time, Terry also taught piano through the Hays CISD Community Education Program where he developed a “play by ear” piano course for more mature students involving chord structures and chord progressions.
Terry began his classical music studies while in fourth grade. He continued his piano education while in college and stationed at various Air Force bases during his military career. In Austin, he studied with well-known teacher, Kay Sparks and Grammy winner, Floyd Domino.
Mr. Capps has been an avid community participant in the Buda and Kyle area. He produced a local musical revue, “It’s Too Darn Hot”, in the summer of 2008, benefitting the Hays CISD Education Foundation. He also presented bi-monthly “Broadway Songbook Series” programs at the Buda and Kyle libraries. He and his TC Trio performed at various venues in the local area, playing Western Swing and Jazz Standards.
Terry has completed additional courses in Music Theory and Orchestration at Texas State University, along with preforming in the ACC Jazz Music Ensemble, he also holds degrees from the University of Missouri with a BA in Mathematics and an MS from Vanderbilt University in Human Development Counseling.
Having owned his own music studio, Terry knows how important it is to find a teacher who is enthused and excited to share their musical knowledge. Terry says there is no greater joy then seeing a student’s face light up when they are able to create wonderful sounding music!
Today, Terry teaches piano lessons at the Pfluger Rock School of Music for superior drums, piano, voice, violin and guitar lessons in in Pflugerville and Round Rock, Texas.Back to Classes & Teachers>
