An experienced and professional collaborative pianist, organist, and harpsichordist as well as musical director of vocal and handbell choirs and orchestras, Sheryl Stack has been teaching piano since 1983, and works with students of all ages and stages.
After moving here from Kansas, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Wichita State University (1985), Ms. Stack received two Master of Music degrees from The University of Texas at Austin—in Applied Piano (1988) and in Collaborative Piano (2011). A graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas for six years, she taught all the group piano classes for music majors and non-music majors, private lessons for university students, and Continuing Education piano classes for advanced adult piano students.
Ms. Stack has served as Coordinator of the Primary Division of the Austin Chamber Music Center Summer Workshop; was a member of the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra for three seasons; has performed solo piano onstage with Ballet Austin; and has served as Staff Accompanist at Luzerne Music Center Summer Camp in upstate New York. She accompanied The University of Texas Chamber Singers one school year, and the University of Texas Wind Ensemble another year, completing it with an exciting performance for several thousand music directors and teachers at the Texas Music Teachers Association convention in San Antonio.
Other highlights of her career include playing organ and singing on a choir tour of Italy including Sunday noon Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome; St. Francis Basilica in Assisi; and a concert in Florence. She enjoyed conducting a Sing-Along Messiah with chancel choir and professional orchestra and soloists for four consecutive years; conducting Vivaldi’s Gloria at two different posts; and starting new groups in three different churches, all of which are still serving and thriving today–a senior’s choir, a mariachi band, and an intergenerational orchestra comprised of church members, who lead worship monthly and on special occasions.
In addition to teaching at Pfluger-Rock, Stack is currently organist at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, choir accompanist at Austin Community College, and music director/accompanist of two show choirs at St. Edwards University, Omni Vocal Jazz and Omni Singers.
When she’s at home, she loves spending time with her two dogs and two cats. Stack’s daughter, Margaux, 19, who played several musical instruments well, is now studying medicine at Virginia College and has a big dog of her own.Back to Classes & Teachers>
