Peter Slavin holds a Ph.D. in Music (2004) from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Music in Composition (1998) from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Prior to attending the Conservatory, he studied Piano Performance at Texas Christian University under Profs. Donna Edwards and Caio Pagano. Upon graduating from the Arts Magnet High School at Booker T. Washington in Dallas, TX, Peter was designated the ‘Outstanding Pianist of 1985’ by the piano faculty. From 2007 to 2012, while living in Chicago, IL, Peter co-directed and performed as principal pianist with the Tiny Mahler Orchestra, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing new and little-heard concert music to Chicagoland communities.
In 2012-2013, he served as orchestrator and accompanist for the South Shore Opera Company of Chicago, in a season that concluded with the Chicago premier of William Grant Still’s operatic masterpiece, “Troubled Island,” a performance that was named the most important Chicago classical music event of 2013 by noted critic Andrew Patner, writing in the online edition of the Chicago Sun Times. Peter has been the music director and/or pianist and organist in a number of churches in Texas, Illinois and California, most recently serving as the accompanist at Trinity Presbyterian Church in San Carlos, CA, from 2014 to 2018. He has accompanied generations of instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles in classes, rehearsals and performances, and has worked constantly for over 25 years as a freelance pianist, organist, composer, arranger, music transcriptionist, and teacher of music.Back to Classes & Teachers>
