Below are Testimonials from our students and parents:
“We were blessed to have David Pencil as our piano teacher. He is a consummate professional and an exceptionally good teacher. To say that we were pleased with him would be an understatement. My daughter learned and progressed so much under his tutelage. Not one minute was wasted during his lessons. He will review the music with your child until he believes that they understand all the nuances of the music. Unfortunately, we decided to transfer our daughter to a piano teacher closer to our home, but Northwest School of Music will always hold a special place in our hearts. Kathleen and the staff are also very kind and helpful! Thanks so much!”
“I have been taking piano lessons from Thomas at NW School of Music for almost 3 years now. I started as a complete beginner in my late 20s and simply chose the closest place I could find, which happened to be NW School of Music. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Thomas is a young but highly gifted musician and has been an outstanding teacher. He gets me excited about the piano and inspires me to get better all the time. His lessons are very casual and laidback, yet informative and productive every time – the perfect learning environment for me. Under his guidance, I have progressed quite a bit, to the point where I am now selecting pieces by Chopin and comparable composers for my recitals. Every student can perform in the recitals held by the school twice each year. I’m quite a bit older than most of the other performers, but the recitals provide a great source of practice motivation and are a great way to gain invaluable experience playing in front of an audience. The school itself is clean and welcoming and the staff are all amazing. They are always on top of scheduling, billing, and communication and everyone is super nice. I highly recommend NW School of Music for all ages (even 28 yr-olds like me).”

“Hey Kathleen, I don’t know if you remember, but this is Greg V. I was one of the guitar students at Northwest School of Music in Austin Tx form 2006 to 2013. Anyway, it’s been a long time since hasn’t it? 3 years since I had left actually!
I wanted to write giving you an update on my musical adventures because I know I would want to hear where my students are in life! I’ve learned. To put it in simple terms, I haven’t put down my guitar since I left for college and I don’t plan on putting it down any time soon either! I’ve continued to improve my slide guitar as I watch and learn from the great slide players like Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, Duane Allman and Elmore James (just to name a few).
Though I have been keeping up with slide, I have been putting much more of an emphasis on improving my finger style and just playing without a slide in general. I’ve been listening to a lot of jazz players and have taken many ideas from all sorts of players who aren’t guitar players. In my opinion, it’s super neat when I play a lick that a trumpet/sax player would play. Some of my favorite jazz players so far are George Benson, Vince Guaraldi, Gerald Albright, Maynard Ferguson, and Milt Jackson. I’ve also been experimenting with eastern music (specifically the work of V.M. Bhatt so far) and trying to incorporate it into my slide playing to spice things up a bit. It’s amazing how many ideas from different music cultures can be implemented into other music cultures!
I’ve gotten the opportunity to play with some amazing musicians (both old and young!) during my time here at A&M. I am still an active member in the university jazz ensemble here at A&M and have dabbed around with a couple of music groups already. As of now, aside form the jazz ensemble, I am playing with a gospel band at an African American church, and have recently formed a soul/blues band with other very talented students.
I’ve recently discovered Tommy Emmanuel and how much of a genius he is on the guitar. Seriously, his finger style is something else. I’ve already learned one of his songs, “Hope Street” and am in the process of learning “Angelina”. I’ll be the first to tell you that these songs are pretty tough, but they are extremely fun and rewarding in my opinion.
Long story short, I have not slowed down with music since ending my lessons at Northwest School of Music, and have continued to learn new things from all sorts of avenues. Once again, I just wanted to write to you to give an update on where I am in my musical adventure. I know I’ve said this before, but thank you so much for all that you and your school has provided for me. I would most likely not be where I am if it weren’t for the guidance of your wonderful staff; and for that, I am truly grateful.”

“I would highly recommend Northwest School of music for anyone interested in professional and quality music instruction. All three of my children took lessons here and thoroughly enjoyed their instructors and lessons. My youngest has just started college and misses her piano lessons with Sarvar, she is practicing when she has time and hopes to pick back up on her lessons sometime in the future. Thank you so much Kathleen and all of the wonderful staff for giving all of my kids a love for music!”

“My 7 year old started her second year here playing piano. Kathleen, the owner, is great with answering any questions, concerns, scheduling requests you have, in a VERY timely manner. The studio is clean, on time, and very professional. The teachers really care!”

“We came to Northwest School of Music two years ago, after having a parent recommend them. I love that they offer so many different instruments and even voice lessons in this location. With several teachers to choose from for piano we signed up with Sarvar because he had an opening. We have absolutely loved having him teach our son. The school itself is very organized, on-time, clean, and very well managed. Communication is excellent between the front office and the parents. I’d recommend them to anyone!”

“My son has taken percussion lessons at NW school of music for 3 years and has enjoyed every minute of it. His teacher, Paul, has been great. He’s patient with a 10/11 year old. He takes into account our goals — the most recent was getting my son into the percussion section at the middle school he will start next year… which he did. He tries to work on songs that interest my son and yet sneak in lessons on technique that apply. Kathleen has always been very quick to respond to questions and keeps us informed of any changes. She has worked with us when schedules need to be changed. All of my encounters with her and with the school have been great”.

“Instructors are knowledgable and patient and the school is very well managed, with a wide range of disciplines. They are willing to adjust the material to keep you interested yet make sure you are continually progressing. The school always seems to be busy and that’s the best indicator that they are doing things right. The lesson costs are a bargain, for both children and adults. I highly recommend them.”

Out two kids have taken lessons here for more than 3 years. The school is so well organized and we have always appreciated the communication they extend to all their students and parents. My daughter now has a love for piano that she did not have when she started. This is a fabulous school and we plan to be back; we had to take a break due to fall sports and activities. Our thanks to Chuck, An Joo, Carter and Kathleen!
– Brandi G.
My daughters have taken piano here for several years. The teachers, instruction, and location have been great. The owners are very friendly, involved and interested in making sure everyone (teachers, students, and parents) has a great experience. Our family highly recommends Northwest School of Music!

We love this school! My son is taking piano at NWMA since 2010. I cannot say enough positive experiences we had at this school. Their teachers have been very motivating and patient with my son. The teachers make the lessons fun and exciting to learn for kids. I Love Kathleen and Scott they are so kind, always very professional. Their kindness towards all the students and parents really make this school extraordinary. Kirk is the best teacher my son ever had; although, We never had bad teacher at this place. We can tell that Kathleen and Scott really put a lot of time and effort to bring the best of the best to this school. We love the family-like atmosphere that Northwest School of Music provides and would definitely recommend it to anyone!!!

We love this school! My daughters are taking piano and flute and both of their teachers have been very motivating and patient with them. The teachers make the lessons fun and tailor the lessons to each students level. While Kathleen and Scott are always very professional, their kindness towards all the students and parents really make this school extraordinary. We love the family-like atmosphere that Northwest School of Music provides and would definitely recommend it to anyone!
A no-pressure environment. Great place for music lessons. My son has been in guitar classes since 2008, and didn’t miss a class (except for prior arrangements), which Kathleen is very helpful and accommodating with missed classes. Super friendly, professional staff! Highly recommend Northwest School of Music. Oh, and the hot tea in the lobby is always nice on those chilly mornings and afternoons! Thank you, Kathleen!
Really wonderful teachers and staff!!! My children loved their terrific teachers. Kathleen was always smiling and caring about everyone. She was also highly professional and did everything to make us happy! We also appreciated the cozy waiting room with a variety of cold/hot drinks and tons of magazines. It was very sad to leave them for our personal reasons, and we will try to come back in the future. Without hesitation I would recommend this great school to any family seeking quality music lessons.
A wonderful nurturing space for children to learn and cultivate their love of music. My daughter went from being shy about performing in public to singing in front of an audience at recitals. This really helped boost her confidence in singing in front of others. Thank you for such a wonderful and caring staff.
I have been blessed to know the teachers and Kathleen and Marie at Northwest School of Music. They have worked with us over the past two years in providing the best Customer Service possible. They have accommodated every request and have listened to our feedback. Our kids enjoy learning there. The recital was conducted professionally. Hospitality and caring attitude of Kathleen and Marie is to be appreciated very much. Communication is superb. Even though we moved far from the school, we are continuing there for all the above reasons. I am very happy to refer the school to anyone who is looking for a good music school in northwest Austin.
We love this place. My five-year-old who takes her piano lessons here, always enjoys going to the music school. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good music school. Both the piano teachers that my daughter had are very good in what they do. The management is very professional, but loving and kind as well. My daughter gets to watch movies in the media room or draw or play games that are provided by the school in case we arrive early for the class. Kathleen and Marie are always helpful in case a change of schedule is needed and try their best to do what they can. The place is clean and parents can have coffee or tea while waiting, I like to use the free Wi-Fi while waiting. Overall, I think that I would not have been able to find a better place for my five-year-old to have her piano lessons. This school has been a blessing!!!!!
My family has been taking music lessons from Northwest School of Music for about three years. My son takes piano, clarinet and electric guitar lessons and my daughter takes acoustic guitar lessons. All of the teachers that my children have had so far have been amazing musicians, patient teachers and great influences. Kathleen gives personal attention to each family, remembering little details that make the kids feel important. The school itself is inviting and friendly, with art supplies and a media room for younger siblings. My youngest child is anxiously awaiting the time when she is “big enough” to play an instrument.
We have had the most positive experience at Northwest School of Music. Brett’s teacher has not only taught him how to play the guitar, he has allowed him to explore and challenge himself while making it so much fun. It is incredible what my son, Brett has learned in 3 years! The school has also been very welcoming to my younger daughter who has to wait around every week for her big brother. They offer movies, books, and coloring, which keeps her very entertained. She loves going too!! It is a warm and friendly environment. We absolutely love Northwest School of Music.
First I want to say how much my children enjoy learning and playing music because of their experience at Northwest School of Music. We have been with the school for over three years, and from day one Kathleen and her musical family have been accommodating and understanding of our busy family and schedule. They are extremely professional and create a welcoming atmosphere for parents, siblings, and students. They go above and beyond to make learning music stress free and fun. No stone is left unturned, and that is most evident at the Christmas and spring performances. Not only do the students get to showcase their talents, but you get to see how talented the teachers are. You won’t find a better school for any child that is interested in music. A big thanks from a very satisfied parent.
In my time at Northwest School of Music, I received professional training from very qualified teachers. My musical ability grew exponentially while attending the school. Northwest School of Music is the school for any aspiring musician to attend.
