Laura Brackney graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, with a BM in Music Theory and Composition, her work has premiered at the Blanton SoundSpace, the 78th Birthday of the UT Kniker Carillon, and the New Media Art and Sound Summit. She began teaching piano and clarinet lessons during her second year of studies and quickly discovered how much she enjoyed sharing her love of music through teaching.
By the time she graduated, Laura was teaching as many as four days a week. One of her most important goals as a teacher is to motivate her students to challenge themselves while still having fun. Laura has taught students of all ages, and she structures lessons according to the musical goals of each student.
While a student, Laura played clarinet in the university Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra, and gained experience teaching clarinet lessons. She founded a student organization dedicated to promoting student compositions, the SU New Music Society, and still enjoys writing and performing new music.
Today, Laura lives and learns in Austin, TX. She is a clarinet and piano private lesson teacher, published composer/arranger, and a member of the UT Javanese Gamelan Ensemble. Additionally, she volunteers with COTFG, organizes musical events for bicyclists, and tends her vegetable garden.Back to Classes & Teachers>
