Mona Sturino is currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin. She is finishing up her Bachelor’s degrees in music and economics and is very enthusiastic to start teaching at the Northwest School of Music.
Mona’s music background extends back to kindergarten when she started learning piano, and had participated in several competitions each year until high school. In high school, she started singing and earned solo recognition in the choir’s performances during the Illinois Music Educators Conference in both 2013 and 2014. It was at these conventions that she realized she wanted to study music, which is why she came to Austin to pursue her passion. Around the same time, she served as the alto section leader of her school’s choir where she taught her peers the music for each of their pieces. She even directed a pop ‘a cappella’ group to perform her arrangements of contemporary pieces including Cindy Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’.
For the past three years of college, she has assisted aspiring musicians with learning how to read music and play piano. She also has instructed primary and elementary students in math and reading, but she thinks teaching music is much more fun. Outside of the classroom, you can find her in a practice room alternating between her vocal and piano repertoire.Back to Classes & Teachers>
