Melanie Lenau is a classically trained violinist from Michigan, “the Great Lakes state”. She studied music at Spring Arbor University, playing in string ensemble, and pit orchestras for plays and productions such as “Into the Woods”. She was also part of a chamber group outside of the university that played weddings and sacred music in churches for special events. She gained valuable experience teaching both violin and piano to children and adults within that community under the umbrella of her violin and piano teachers at the University. She also took several music pedagogy classes there as well.
Since then, Melanie has performed venues and festivals throughout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Michigan and has done two tours in Europe over the last three years with her former duo Outlier. They performed music from three of their studio albums ranging in style from rock, folk, country, western swing, Irish, Spanish, to pop and classical.
Currently, Melanie performs in the hill country and the Austin area performing house concerts, weddings and special events, and is occasionally backed by her trio “Melanie in the Middle” which includes another fiddle player and mandolinist.
Melanie enjoys teaching as much as she enjoys performing and is excited to welcome new students and to see her current students learn and grow. While she knows that each student learns differently, has specific goals with the violin, tailoring each lesson accordingly, she also teaches from a classical approach. A few materials that she may use or suggest are: Suzuki, Essential Elements for Strings, Solos for Young Violinists, You Can Teach Yourself Fiddling, Essential Scales and Studies for Violin, Carl Flesch Scale System, Kreutzer 42 Studies for Violin, etc.Back to Classes & Teachers>
